The University of Bucharest occupies, in this year’s edition of the Round University Ranking (RUR) World University Rankings, the first position at national level for the area of research. Featured in the RUR World University Rankings ever since 2010, since its launch, the University of Bucharest ranks #540, at international level, in the research section.
The 2024 ranking, accredited by IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence, measures the performances of over 1.100 universities, based on 20 indicators grouped in 4 key-areas of university activity: teaching, research, international diversity and financial sustainability. RUR Rankings is designed as an evaluation system aimed to provide sufficient information about university performance to address stakeholder’s personal tasks: students, academic community, university management, policy makers.
In the general ranking, the University of Bucharest is preceded by the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest and Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, and followed by the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology in Târgu-Mureș.
The main areas evaluated by the ranking are teaching (40%) and research (40%), followed by international diversity (10%) and financial sustainability (10%), which are considered auxiliary areas, as mentioned in the methodology of the RUR World University Rankings.
For each field, the ranking follows a series of indicators, among which the training and international reputation of the teaching staff, the number of citations of teaching and research staff’s papers, the international reputation of the research done in universities, the number of students and members of the administrative staff who benefit from international stages, as well as institutional incomes for the academic staff or for the students.
