From February 24 to 26, 2026, the University of Bucharest is participating in the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 Conference and Exhibition. The university is represented by a delegation including Professor Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest; Associate Professor Mugur Zlotea, PhD, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Public Relations and Students, and Flavia Vendetti from the International Relations Office, who is responsible for promoting the university’s study programs.
The event is taking place in Hong Kong under the theme “Partnerships for the Global Good.” It has brought together 22 Romanian university delegations under the umbrella of the National Council of Rectors, coordinated through the “Study in Romania” program.
On the opening day of the conference, the Romanian delegation was honored by the presence of Mr. Mircea Gabriel Ciulu, the Consul General of Romania in Hong Kong, who visited the national pavilion. During the first day, the University of Bucharest held strategic meetings with representatives from seven universities around the world. These included the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte and the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) from Brazil. Discussions focused on expanding academic exchange programs and exploring opportunities for joint projects between Brazilian institutions and the University of Bucharest.
The visit of representatives from Akita International University (Japan) and Pusan National University (South Korea) to the University of Bucharest’s exhibition stand underscored the strong and ongoing partnerships between these institutions.
The second day of the conference is dedicated to meetings with various universities, including Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and City University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong) . These discussions highlight the importance of collaborations with Asian and other international partners, aiming to expand the horizons of research, student exchange, and institutional cooperation.
Commenting on the significance of the University of Bucharest’s participation, Associate Professor Mugur Zlotea, PhD, stated: “The APAIE Conference is a vital opportunity for the academic community of UB to exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world. It also allows universities to develop more sustainable activities by sharing valuable knowledge with their partners.”
The final day of the conference will wrap up three days of intensive meetings, summarizing the critical importance of engaging with both established and future partners. The goal is to create a robust international network where universities can exchange best practices and foster an ideal environment for sharing scientific results.
APAIE is the largest international education gathering in the Asia-Pacific region and ranks as the third most significant event of its kind worldwide, following the NAFSA Association of International Educators (USA) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE).
Through its presence at APAIE 2026, the University of Bucharest reaffirms its commitment to internationalization and to building a globally competitive education system, solidifying its position as a key academic partner on the world stage.
