According to the most recent ranking done by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), published today April 10th 2024, the University of Bucharest (UB) is the first university in Romania in the fields of Linguistics, Modern Languages and Physics and Astronomy. In the 2024 edition, the QS Ranking by Subject shows the performances of 1.559 universities.
According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, organized for essential domains on the basis of the results of associated sub-fields, the University of Bucharest appears in 4 of the 5 domains analyzed: Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Management and Engineering and Technology.
The QS Ranking places the University of Bucharest in the first 401 – 450 universities worldwide in Arts and Humanities. In this essential subject, the QS Ranking places the University of Bucharest first at national level in the sub-fields of Linguistics (places 151-200, worldwide) and Modern Languages (places 251-300, worldwide). At national level, UB is the only university present in the sub-field of Linguistics, being preceded by the „Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca in the sub-field of Modern Languages.
In addition, the University of Bucharest places first, at national level (places 451 – 500, worldwide) in the fundamental field of Natural Sciences, next to the „Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca. The result is due to the sub-field of Physics and Astronomy, which places the University of Bucharest first at national level, next to „Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca, and also to the sub-field of Mathematics. Worldwide, Physics and Astronomy position the University of Bucharest between the first 551 – 600 universities, and Mathematics, between 401- 450.
The University of Bucharest is also mentioned in the ranking affiliated to the field of Social Sciences and Management: QS World University Rankings by Subject positions the University of Bucharest among the first 451-500 universities globally, and on the second place, nationally.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject analyzes the performances of universities on the basis of indicators such as academic reputation, the number of citations for published papers, reputation among employers, the impact and quality of the papers published by researchers and teaching staff (h-index), and also the efficiency of inter-institutional collaborations (IRN).
