In the section Debut CLP, Contemporary Literature Press, in conjunction with The National Museum for Romanian Literature, is publishing an ample interview by Sorin Ivan, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Communication Studies and International Relations of the University Titu Maiorescu, Bucharest, and Director of the Tribune of Education.
He interviews Lidia Vianu, poet, novelist, critic, and translator, Professor Emeritus of the University of Bucharest, where she is also Director of the publishing house Contemporary Literature Press, founder and coordinator of MTTLC (The MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text).
“An interview with Lidia Vianu is much more than questions and answers, more than the game of „talk to me”. It defies all rituals of conversation. Every answer to absolutely every question opens a door into another space, and yet another. Door after door after door, you see more than meets the eye: you learn how to reach the core of it all. There is not one question that does not trigger a profound, disarmingly honest answer. Her often disconcerting lucidity is fed by intelligence and sharp thinking. No compromise, no duplicity, no hesitation. You find yourself in a labyrinth, a complicated and overwhelming world. A universe called Lidia Vianu. Each answer comes after deep introspection and is an intellectual leap that lands the interviewer into the essence of it all. We end up facing a multiple, existential, axiological and moral judgment. These deep, inward-oriented answers lead to more and more questions, which are followed, in turn, by more words, or just enigmatic speechlessness. This spectacular display of synapses, almost Joycean, I should say, is always ruled by reason and critical wisdom. A dialogue with Lidia Vianu is only possible if the interviewer leaves aside formal rituals and rhetoric. It means you have to exercise your mind, to be ready to analyse everything in your life with deep critical clarity, because only that can take you to the genuine meaning, the meaning that escapes a superficial contemplation of what may be visible all right, but it is not of the essence at all”, said the author ot the volume „Între Profesie și Literatură. Interviu cu Lidia Vianu”/ “Between Profession and Literature. Interview with Lidia Vianu”.
The interview focuses on Romanian culture and education, and sheds a new light on the work of two Professors who have dedicated their lives to Romanian Education.
