CIVIS invites faculty members and researchers of the University of Bucharest to submit project proposals under the second CIVIS call for funding Africa–Europe research and collaboration activities.
The call aims to promote research collaboration between CIVIS member universities and associated partner universities in Africa. Proposals must address at least one of the five main CIVIS Hub thematic areas:
- Climate, Environment, and Energy
- Society, Culture, and Heritage
- Health
- Cities, Spaces, and Mobilities
- Digital and Technological Transformation
Applications can be submitted until 31 May 2025, exclusively via this portal. Selected applicants will be notified by early November 2025, and funded projects may start as of 1 November 2025.
Scope and Eligible Activities
Through this call, CIVIS seeks to support bottom-up initiatives for joint research, fostering innovation, long-term collaboration, and openness to non-academic sectors. The following types of activities are eligible for funding:
- Doctoral schools or other training activities for PhD candidates
- Thematic workshops or summer/winter schools focused on a research topic
- Meetings aimed at establishing a CIVIS research group
- Meetings with non-academic stakeholders
- Workshops preparing a larger research publication
- Citizen science projects
Eligibility and Conditions
Both faculty members and postdoctoral researchers from all CIVIS member universities are eligible to apply, provided they hold permanent positions or contracts extending beyond the funding period.
Proposals must:
- Involve at least three CIVIS universities from Europe or Africa (including at least two European universities);
- Comply with the eligible activity types;
- Be implemented no later than 30 June 2026.
Each selected project may receive up to €10,000, depending on the project location and the number of planned mobility activities.
Applicants planning to organise an event at a partner university must consult the local contact person at that institution prior to submitting the proposal. In addition, all applicants (one representative per project) must inform their local CIVIS office about their application.
