From February 28 to March 2, 2026, the University of Bucharest took part in the BMI Global Student Fair LATAM 2026, held in Mexico City. The university’s participation took place under the “Study in Romania” umbrella initiative, coordinated by UEFISCDI and the National Council of Rectors. This event is the most important education fair in Mexico aimed at high school students and, in particular, graduates interested in pursuing master’s or doctoral studies abroad.

The University of Bucharest delegation included Prof. Marian Preda, Rector of the University of Bucharest, Assoc. Prof. Mugur Zlotea, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Public Relations and Students, and Assoc. Prof. Mihai Enăchescu, Director of the Department of Romance, Classical and Modern Greek Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
The participation of the University of Bucharest in this fair, alongside 12 other Romanian universities, represents an important step in the university’s internationalization efforts and in strengthening its global academic presence. Through this event, the university promoted its educational programs to a diverse audience interested in learning about education systems around the world. Initiatives like this help increase the university’s international visibility and reinforce its reputation as a center of academic excellence.

A key point of interest is the University of Bucharest’s membership in the CIVIS European University Alliance, which brings together 11 prestigious higher education institutions across Europe. Being part of CIVIS facilitates the development of joint study programs, academic mobility opportunities, and interdisciplinary research projects at the European level.
During the BMI Global Student Fair LATAM 2026, the University of Bucharest delegation also met with Adina Năstase, Consul at the Romanian Embassy in Mexico and an alumna of the University of Bucharest.
A significant number of Mexican students expressed interest in the master’s and doctoral programs offered by the University of Bucharest, especially those taught in foreign languages. Fields such as exact and natural sciences, psychology, and business administration attracted particular attention from Mexican graduates seeking competitive academic programs, advanced research opportunities, and strong career prospects within a European context.

On Monday, March 2, 2026, the University of Bucharest delegation visited Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), where they met with the university’s leadership. UNAM is already a partner institution of the University of Bucharest, with existing Erasmus+ agreements that facilitate academic staff exchanges. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and identifying additional areas of mutual interest.
Through this openness to dialogue and collaboration, the University of Bucharest reaffirms its role as an active participant in global academic networks, contributing to the promotion of intercultural exchange, innovation, and joint research. Participation in events such as this reflects the vision of a modern university committed to cooperation, diversity, and integration into the international knowledge community.
