Between March 6–8, 2026, the University of Bucharest chess team achieved strong results at the National University Chess Championship, hosted by the West University of Timișoara.
Coordinated by Prof. Daniela Aducovschi, PhD, and Associate Prof. Robert Sakizlian, PhD, from the Department of Physical Education and Sport, the UB team consisted of nine students – three women and six men – who competed in the individual rapid and blitz events.
A standout performance came from Coman Mihnea-George, a second-year master’s student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, who secured second place in the affiliated category.

The championship brought together more than 100 students from 11 universities across the country, with the University of Bucharest finishing 7th overall.
