Alexandra Căpitănescu, a master’s student at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest, achieved one of Romania’s strongest Eurovision results in recent history, finishing third in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with her rock entry “Choke Me.”
With a total of 296 points, Romania recorded its highest score ever at Eurovision. Alexandra Căpitănescu’s performance stood out through its powerful mix of alternative rock and electronic influences, as well as the intensity of her stage presence.

In an interview for TVR Info, she shared: “I graduated from the Faculty of Physics and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Medical Physics in Bucharest. I love science, history, and geography. I’m passionate about the cultures and religions of the world. I enjoy reading, spending time in nature with my family, and my friends mean a great deal to me. I love art in all its forms.”
Alexandra Căpitănescu’s Eurovision 2026 journey has become a source of pride for the academic community of the University of Bucharest, where she completed her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Physics and is now continuing her master’s degree in the Medical Physics program.
Her achievement brought Romania back into the Eurovision spotlight after a two-year absence from the competition and sparked strong reactions both in the international press and among Eurovision fans. The Associated Press included Romania’s performance among the standout moments of the Vienna final, describing “Choke Me” as one of the most energetic and original entries of this year’s contest.
At the press conference held upon her return to Romania, Alexandra thanked everyone who supported her throughout the competition, describing the result in Vienna as “an important victory for us, as artists who are still growing.” She also emphasized the importance of collaboration and teamwork, adding: “We could never have achieved this on our own and, as advice for future Eurovision participants, dear ones, you need a team, you need people you can place all your trust in.”
The Eurovision 2026 third-place finisher first gained national recognition after winning the music competition “Vocea României” in 2023. Shortly afterward, she released her debut single, “Căpitanu.” In April 2024, she launched her first EP, also titled “Căpitanu,” featuring five tracks that further established her artistic identity. Later that year, she embarked on a tribute tour dedicated to Laura Stoica. The artist also collaborated with the band VAMA on the song “Fluturi în stomac.” In 2025, she released the singles “Stea căzătoare,” “Dilaila,” and “Tare.”
