Following the success of the first event on 3 February 2025, and to continue fostering dialogue among stakeholders and enthusiasts of paleogenetics, the Paleogenetic & Archaeology Perspectives in Romania #2 event will bring together specialists from the Romanian Academy – “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest (Dr. Adrian Bălășescu), Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca (Dr. Bea Kelemen), the ArchaeoSciences Platform (Dr. Cătălin Lazăr), the Faculty of Biology (Dr. Grațiela Grădișteanu), and a special guest, Dr. Mircea Iliescu, a researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, and visiting professor at ICUB for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The event will take place in a hybrid format on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, starting at 11:00 AM, at the Research Platform in Biology and Systemic Ecology, Faculty of Biology, University of Bucharest, 91–95 Independenței Boulevard (entrance from Bogdan Petriceicu Hașdeu Street), ground-floor conference hall.
The Google Meet link for online participation is available here.
The roundtable aims to:

- Identify professional training opportunities for master’s students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in Romania at prestigious international laboratories.
- Develop joint research projects between Romanian institutions and explore prospects for establishing paleogenetic laboratories in the country.
- Discuss perspectives and challenges in paleogenomic research and its contribution to understanding the history and diversity of populations in Romania and Europe.
The event is open to all interested in this fascinating field—students, researchers, academics, and professionals from diverse interdisciplinary areas. It is an excellent opportunity to engage in high-level discussions, learn from leading experts, and contribute to strengthening a robust academic network.
