The 9th edition of the European Physics Olympiad took place between June 13–17, 2025, in Sofia, Bulgaria. During the competition, Romania’s team, composed of students from the International Computer High School of Bucharest (ICHB), won gold and silver medals.
This year’s edition brought together students from 40 countries, including 28 European nations and 12 from other regions of the world. Romania participated with a full delegation (5 students, 1 team leader, and 2 observers), and the Romanian students achieved outstanding results, once again placing Romania at the top of the international rankings:
Gold Medals: Felix Tudose, Ionuț Stan
Silver Medals: Mendel Mendelsohn, Bogdan Ciocârlan, Andrei Vila
The students were coached by Lecturer Virgil V. Băran, PhD, faculty member at the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Physics and Director of UB’s Council for Doctoral Studies, Associate Professor Sebastian Popescu, PhD, from the Faculty of Physics at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, and Professor Delia Davidescu, PhD, teacher at the International Computer High School of Bucharest.
