For the eighth consecutive year, the University of Bucharest has recognized the achievements of the most distinguished academic community members during the latest edition of the Gala of the Senate Awards of the University of Bucharest. The event took place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in the „Ioan Mihăilescu” Amphitheatre at the Rectorate of the University of Bucharest and was livestreamed on the university’s official Facebook page.
This initiative aims to acknowledge the academic, research, and civic engagement achievements of the University of Bucharest’s academic community members. During the Gala, awards were granted in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences, Exact Sciences and Engineering, as well as for education/professional training, research, innovation, and publications. Additional categories included awards for emeritus professors, associate professors, employers, academic journals, and civic initiatives.
Among the winners in these fields, the recipients of the Senate’s Grand Prizes were also announced. These prestigious titles included: „Professor of the Year,” „University/Postgraduate Program of the Year,” „Author of the Year,” „Research Project of the Year,” „Bachelor’s Thesis of the Year,” „Master’s Thesis of the Year,” „Doctoral Thesis of the Year,” „Alumnus of the Year,” and „Employer of the Year.”

The total prize fund for 2024, as allocated by the Senate of the University of Bucharest, amounts to 505,460 lei. The value of the awards in the individual fields constitutes one-third of the value of the Grand Prizes. The financial benefit associated with a Grand Prize cannot be combined with that of an award in a specific category.
The financial benefits associated with these awards are determined by the Senate and may include monetary prizes for tenured or part-time faculty; participation in conferences or procurement of goods and services necessary for professional practice for university employees; and excellence scholarships for students.
The awards (including the Grand Prizes) for Alumnus of the Year and Employer of the Year are honorary and do not include any financial component.
