On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Austrian Embassy hosted the award ceremony for the “Grand Medal of Honor for Merit” (Großes Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste) granted to Professor Gabriel Horațiu Decuble, PhD and faculty member at the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest.
This prestigious distinction – awarded since 1952 to scientists, artists, clergy, journalists, politicians, and others who have made exemplary contributions to promoting the Republic of Austria – was conferred on November 24, 2024, by presidential decree and presented by Her Excellency Ulla Krauss-Nussbaumer, Ambassador of Austria.
The ceremony, introduced by the ambassador’s speech and a laudatio delivered by Professor Mariana Lăzărescu, PhD, Professor Emerita and Director of the Austria Library at the University of Bucharest, brought together university colleagues, as well as invited scholars and cultural figures from Romania, Austria, and Germany.
