The Romanian national chemistry team achieved outstanding results at the 57th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2025), held in July 2025 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The competition brought together students from 92 countries and is one of the most prestigious international contests for students passionate about chemistry.
Results achieved by the Romanian students:
Gold medal: Matei Ursăchescu,“B.P. Hasdeu” National College, Buzău
Silver medal: Mihnea Alexe, “Tudor Vianu” National College, Bucharest; Ștefan Dumitrescu,“Dr. Ioan Meșotă” National College, Brașov
Bronze medal: Alexandru Băgăianu, “Sfântul Sava” National College, Bucharest
The Romanian team was trained and accompanied at the competition by Professor Marius Andruh, PhD, Vice President of the Romanian Academy and faculty member at the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Chemistry, Associate Professor Mihaela Matache, PhD, also from the Faculty of Chemistry, and teacher Daniel Bogdan from “Sfântul Sava” National College in Bucharest.
This achievement builds on the excellent results from previous years and confirms the high quality of training offered by the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Chemistry in preparing young Olympians.
