On Friday, 13 February 2026, the ArchaeoSciences Platform (ASp) of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB), together with the Faculty of Biology, University of Bucharest, invites you to a new event within the ArchaeoSciences Round Tables series, dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between Archaeology and Genetics.
This edition will bring together students, archaeologists, and specialists from the University of Bucharest, the National Museum of Romanian History, the Bucharest Municipality Museum, the Romanian Academy, and partner institutions. The special guest will be Dr Mircea Iliescu, a researcher at the University of Cambridge (UK) and Visiting Professor at ICUB for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Format and venue
The event will be held on Friday, 13 February 2026, starting at 14:00, at the Faculty of Biology (Botanical Garden Building), University of Bucharest, Intrarea Portocalelor 1–3, Seminar Room (basement; former herbarium).
Aims of the round table
- To explore current collaborations in palaeogenetics and identify ongoing projects in Romania.
- To identify training opportunities for MA students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers from Romania in leading laboratories abroad.
- To develop joint research projects between Romanian institutions and consider prospects for establishing palaeogenetics laboratories in Romania.
- To discuss the prospects and challenges of palaeogenomic research and its contribution to understanding the history and population diversity of Romania and Europe.
The event is open to all those interested in this field—students, researchers, academic staff, and professionals working across interdisciplinary areas. Participation is free of charge.
