The Romanian national mathematics team achieved outstanding results at the 66th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held from July 10–20 on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
This year’s Olympiad brought together participants from 114 countries and remains one of the most prestigious international competitions for young mathematics enthusiasts.
The results achieved by the Romanian students:
- Gold medals: Pavel Ciurea, International Computer Science High School of Bucharest, Emanuel Mazăre, “Alexandru Odobescu” National College, Pitești;
- Silver medals: Andrei Vila, International Computer Science High School of Bucharest, David Ghibu, International Computer Science High School of Bucharest, David-Vlad Mărghidan, International Computer Science High School of Bucharest
- Bronze medal: Radu Ionuț-Stoleriu, “Emil Racoviță” National College, Iași
The Romanian team was trained and led by Associate Professor Cătălin-Liviu Gheorghe, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bucharest (Leader), Professor Marius Perianu from “Ion Minulescu” National College in Slatina (Deputy Leader), and Lucian Țurea from the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society.
Representing the Ministry of Education and Research, Professor Elisabeta Ana Naghi, a mathematics inspector, participated as an observer.
This achievement builds on Romania’s strong performances in previous years and reaffirms the high quality of training provided by the professors of the University of Bucharest in preparing the country’s young Olympiad competitors.
