The University of Bucharest ranks among the universities most strongly engaged in sustainability-related activities, according to the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, one of the best-known rankings in the international academic landscape.
The University of Bucharest is placed within the top 550 universities worldwide, out of 1,994 institutions included in this year’s sixth edition of the ranking.
At the national level, among the 12 universities featured in the ranking, the University of Bucharest (524) is preceded by Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (318) and followed by Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași (765)-all members of the Universitaria Consortium.
The ranking evaluates higher education institutions based on three criteria: social impact (45%), environmental impact (45%), and governance (10%)
The University of Bucharest holds the highest national position for the indicators related to good university governance.
These indicators cover: ethical culture (the presence and promotion of clear ethical values within the institution), financial transparency (publication of transparent financial reports), student representation in governance (student involvement in decision-making processes), publication of decision-making processes (public access to governance meeting minutes), alignment with international standards
