The University of Bucharest continues its tradition of promoting environmental responsibility, equity, and community well-being through the third edition of Sustainability Week, taking place between October 27 and November 2, 2025.
As in previous years, the event will feature a rich program of workshops, educational activities, competitions, campaigns, and awareness initiatives, all aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The full program is available here.
Our Goals
Sustainability Week aims to raise awareness and engagement within the university community regarding sustainable practices inspired by the SDGs. Through educational, cultural, sports, and social activities, the University seeks to: promote education for sustainable development, foster inclusion and reduce inequalities, encourage well-being and a healthy, responsible lifestyle, raise awareness about environmental protection and responsible resource use, cultivate a spirit of social responsibility within the academic community.

When and where
Sustainability Week begins on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with a series of training workshops held in the Rectorate’s Administrative Council Room (Șoseaua Panduri 90).
On Tuesday, October 28, participants are invited to two engaging sessions:
- “Mini UrbanLab for Green Cities” – led by Diana Dobrin (UrbanizeHub Romania)
- “Sustainability and Consumer Protection – Practical Tools for a Fair Society” – with Sorin Mierlea (InfoCons)
On Thursday, October 30, two special activities will take place:
- At 9:00 AM, a guided tour “Discover UB’s Heritage” will be organized in the Dimitrie Brândză Botanical Garden, followed by the workshop “Learning About Invasive Species”, led by Prof. Dr. Paulina Anastasiu in room P08 of the Botanical Garden’s Administrative Building.
(Participation is limited to 30 people. Please arrive at the main entrance by 8:50 AM.) - Later that day, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, students are invited to the UB Support Services Presentation, featuring representatives from the Inclusion, Equity and Equal Opportunities Service (SIEFS), the Career Counseling and Guidance Department (DCOC), the UB Learning Center (CI), the Erasmus and CIVIS Office, Erasmus Student Network Bucharest (ESN UniBucharest), the IT & Communications Department, and the Student Housing, Canteens, and Student Activities Directorate.
(This session will be repeated on Friday, October 31, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.)
Rewarding Sustainability engagement
Between October 27 and November 2, UB community members are invited to join the “Sustainable Every Day” competition and show how they integrate sustainability into daily life – whether through using public transport, growing urban gardens, or reducing plastic use.
Participants are encouraged to post photos or videos on Facebook using the hashtags #sustenabilZIdeZI and #UniBucSustenabil, along with a short description of how their actions contribute to a more sustainable environment.
Test your sustainability knowledge
Throughout the week, the UB community can take part in the Sustainability Quiz, an interactive Kahoot challenge designed to test and expand participants’ knowledge about sustainability, the UN 2030 Agenda, and UB’s own sustainability initiatives.

UB Steps Week – Win prizes worth 3,000 RON
From October 27 to November 2, the third edition of UB Steps Week challenges participants to get moving!
Community members are invited to join the Pacer app challenge “UB Steps Week”, and prizes totaling 3,000 RON will be awarded to the top nine participants who record the most steps.

Donation Campaign for SEED students
During Sustainability Week, UB will also highlight the SEED Project – Educational Support for Disadvantaged Students, through which volunteers from the UB Foundation help underprivileged students improve their academic performance.

Fit & Green – Sports for a Sustainable Lifestyle
Between October 27–30, UB community members are encouraged to take a “fitness break” and learn simple, practical exercises — especially useful for those with sedentary routines.
Organized with support from the Department of Physical Education and Sports, the sessions will take place in:
- the Panduri Campus gym (Șoseaua Panduri 90), and
- the Pitar Moș gym at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures (Strada Pitar Moș).
“No Elevator Week”
Throughout Sustainability Week, UB encourages everyone to take the stairs instead of the elevator and join the “No Elevator Week” challenge. Burn calories, not electricity!
Change Through Recycling – E-Waste Collection Campaign
From October 27 to November 2, the University of Bucharest will serve as an e-waste collection hub, with Envrion collection points set up across several university campuses to promote responsible recycling practices.

Following the success of the first two editions (2023 and 2024), and guided by its vision of being a university for future generations — modern, innovative, and efficient, the University of Bucharest continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability.
