According to the most recent data from World University Rankings, realized by Times Higher Education (THE) and published Wednesday, October 9th 2024, the University of Bucharest holds the leading position in what concerns comprehensive universities in Romania.
A constant presence in the reputed ranking done by THE, the University of Bucharest is positioned in the areal 1001-1200 at international level.
The 21st annual edition of THE World University Rankings includes 2.092 universities in 115 countries and regions.
The methodology of the ranking, focused on research
The ranking, based on 18 performance indicators, takes into account 5 main aspects for defining the classification methodology: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Thus, for the 21st edition, the Times Higher Education team used a methodology which better reflects the universities’ performances, thus:
Teaching and learning environment – 29.5% ratio
Research environment (Volume, income and reputation) – 29% ratio
research quality (citation impact, research quality, excellence and influence of research) – 30% ratio
International outlook (staff, students, research) – 7.5% ratio
Industry (income, patents) – 4% ratio
World University Rankings 2025, conquered by the universities in the Universitaria consortium

This year, the University of Bucharest celebrated 160 years since its foundation through Decree no. 765 from July 4th / 16th 1864 of Ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza.
