Tuesday, March 12th 2024, the University of Bucharest hosted the conference titled Transformative Agreements Awareness Event (TA Awareness event), event co-organized by the Association of Universities, Research – Development Institutes and Central University Libraries in Romania – Anelis Plus – and the partner academic publishing houses, along with the platform Enformation.
The conference, which reunited over 100 participants, members of the academic and administrative community of the University of Bucharest, representatives of the Anelis Plus Association and the collaborating publishing houses, aimed to present the instruments, methods and strategies by which raising the awareness on Romanian research in the world is made possible.
The open publishing of scientific papers only in specialized publications that offer readers free access, through the transition from read only to the publish and read model will be done by transformative agreements (Elsevier), subscription being the only condition mandatory for participating institutions.
The advantages of publishing in Open Access regime (OA), one of the main goals of the Anelis Plus 2023-2025 project, which will be implemented in a consortium comprising 88 partner institutions, among which the University of Bucharest, were exposed in the paper From Open Access to Read and Publish: where are we at, and what do we want?, presented by Ivona Olariu, PhD, executive director of Anelis Plus.
In the dedicated session, she explained the stages of the process, the steps taken up to present and the results expected. In addition, the executive director of Anelis Plus underlined that the reunion is the first event that Anelis organizes with UB, a first step for such conferences, given the new subscription context in Open Access, starting with 2024.
Alison Ferrett, Customer Success Manager of Elsevier Publishing House, one of the 7 major publishing houses engaged in the project, shared technical details referring to publishing in Open Access in the near future with the participants at the conference.
During the reunion, in the How to Choose a Journal Wisely Session, presented by Alison Ferrett, UB researchers and teaching staff – scientific papers authors – found out about the criteria used for choosing the appropriate magazines to publish research results with Elsevier, at the same time getting familiar with the work flow for publishing in OA at Elsevier.
