Between September 11th – 14th 2024, the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest, through the Research Centre in the Field of Criminal Sciences, hosted and co-organized the 24th annual conference of the European Society of Criminology – Criminology goes East, the most prestigious event in Europe in this field.
The event was unprecedented in its broadness and importance, reuniting approximately 1.600 specialists in criminal sciences, criminology, sociology, victimology and other disciplines circumscribed to the larger field of criminology, which, during the four days of the conference, had the opportunity to present the stage and results of their own scientific research.
30 panels organized around 8 main themes
The debates were structured in a diversified manner, thus being highly attractive, allowing the public to participate to plenary debates (four plenary sessions, organized in the Aula Magna Hall of the Palace of the Faculty of Law), to more than 30 parallel panels, organized around 8 themes ((Perspectives on Crime and Criminal Behavior Topic; Types of Offending; Crime Correlates; Victimology; Social Control and Criminal Justice; Perceptions of Crime and Justice; Comparative and Historical Perspectives; Methodologies in Criminology), at round table presentations or poster-type events, but also to the social events prepared by the organizers, with the support of sponsors, among which prestigious publishing houses in Europe, the American Society of Criminology and the Association of Criminal Justice Sciences.
Both consecrated specialists and young researchers of the University of Bucharest, of other reputed universities in Romania, Europe and the world participated to the scientific event, thus making the conference not just an adequate frame for debating themes of common interest, but also for launching new national, pan European and international initiatives.
The scientific event was a great success also thanks to its impeccable organization, to the effort of the team of the UB Faculty of Law, coordinated by associate professor Andra Trandafir, who enjoyed the efficient and enthusiastic support of no fewer than 150 students-volunteers and the administrative staff of the Faculty, as well as by the exceptional support of the sponsors, underlined the representatives of Faculty of Law.
