Between June 11th -12th 2024, the University of Bucharest attended the first edition of Romanian Days, event hosted by Trakya University in Edirne, the most important university in north-western Türkiye, with collaboration relationships in the entire Balkan region.
Tuesday, June 11th 2024, the conference took place at the Balkan Congress Centre of Trakya University, starting 9:30 AM. The University of Bucharest was represented at the reunion by associate professor Sorin Costreie, PhD, President of UNICA and coordinator of the CIVIS Alliance within UB, professor Oana Fotache Dubălaru, PhD, Dean of the UB Faculty of Letters, associate professor Laura Sitaru, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, associate professor Silvana Rachieru, PhD, director of the Centre for Turkish Studies of the Faculty of History, as well as PhD student Bianca Roman. Another important presence was that of the Romanian Ambassador to Ankara, H.E. Ștefan Tinca, of the ambassador of Türkiye in Bucharest, H.E. Özgür Kıvanç Altan, and the Governor of Edirne Provence, Yunus Sezer. The host and organizer of the event was Rector Erhan Tabakoglu, BUA (Balkan Universities Association) General Secretary.
At the same time, online presentations were also held by associate professor Constantin Vică, PhD, UB vice-rector for Internationalization and Public Relations, academician and professor Mircea Dumitru, PhD, teaching staff at the UB Faculty of Philosophy and vice-president of the Romanian Academy, professor Nicolae Gheorghiță, PhD, Vice-rector of the National University of Music in Bucharest, professor Liliana Dumitrache, PhD, Director of the Department of Human and Economic Geography of the Faculty of Geography of the University of Bucharest.

Romanian Days 2024 approached themes such as: Ottoman music during the Phanariot Era in Wallachia and Moldavia; the scientific collaboration in the field of geography and geographical education between Türkiye and Romania, reflecting on past and future perspectives; the relationship between science, truth and democracy, exploring potential conflicts and challenges; the diplomatic model of the 145 years of relations between Romania and Türkiye in the Balkans; Turkish philologic and cultural studies at the University of Bucharest; representations of the Romanian geo-cultural identities in the 20th century. Associate professor Silvana Rachieru presented the book The century of harmony: Romanian-Turkish relationships 1923- 2023 (2024), published at the initiative of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara.
Wednesday, June 12th 2024, the hosts organized a round table with the deans of the faculties of Humanities. Thus, professor Oana Fotache Dubălaru, PhD, associate professor Laura Sitaru, PhD, and professor Viorel Vizureanu, PhD, next to their Turkish counterparts, explored the possible ways of collaboration between the University of Bucharest and Trakya University, as well as the development of opportunities for common projects and scientific cooperation.
The two universities agreed to organize a Turkish Days event in Bucharest in 2025, aiming to transform these meetings into traditional manifestations held alternatively by the two institutions.
