YPEL is a civic and educational initiative dedicated to young people, built around the need for the new generation to actively engage in a European context marked by geopolitical uncertainty, disinformation campaigns, and hybrid threats to democracy. The event offers a space for reflection and dialogue among students, experts, policymakers, and representatives of European institutions.
At a time when Romania is facing heightened security risks and European values are often distorted by manipulative messaging, YPEL encourages student engagement in defending democratic principles and building a resilient society.
The event is structured in two main parts, designed to highlight current European topics and facilitate dialogue among different participant groups. The first part consists of a conference featuring contributions from key actors in the political, academic, and institutional spheres. Topics will include the security challenges facing the European Union and Romania, the impact of disinformation on democracy and institutional responses, Romania’s future in the EU, and youth engagement in promoting European values.
The second part is dedicated to young participants and includes interactive sessions, information on European opportunities for students, and an educational activity supported by partner organizations.
The Security Studies and World Politics Association (SSWP) is a non-governmental organization established in 2024 within the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Bucharest. Its mission is to help shape a new generation of responsible leaders, equipped to tackle contemporary global challenges and committed to strengthening democracy and modernizing society.
