The University of Bucharest is ranked as the top university in Romania in six disciplines – Linguistics, Modern Languages, English Language and Literature, Political Science, Chemistry, and Geography – according to the latest rankings published on March 25, 2026, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates the performance of more than 1,900 universities worldwide.
At the international level, the University of Bucharest is ranked 151–200 in Linguistics, 201–250 in Modern Languages and Geography, 301–350 in English Language and Literature, 301–400 in Political Science, and 551–600 in Chemistry.
Nationally, the University of Bucharest is the only Romanian university represented in English Language and Literature, Chemistry, and Geography.
It is also worth noting that the University of Bucharest ranks second nationally in: Mathematics (ranked 401–450 globally) and Physics and Astronomy (ranked 601–675 globally).
Based on these results, the University of Bucharest appears in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 across several broad subject areas: Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences and Management (ranked 451–500 globally), and Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management (ranked 501–550 globally)
The QS World University Rankings by Subject assesses universities based on indicators such as academic reputation, citation counts of published works, employer reputation, the impact and quality of research published by faculty members (h-index), and the effectiveness of interinstitutional collaborations (IRN).
