CIVIS has recently launched a call for projects under the “CIVIS Universities and Society in Action” programme, that supports transnational civic engagement projects that address concrete societal needs identified with societal partners (civil society organisations, public authorities, schools, cultural institutions, social enterprises, businesses, community groups and other organisations outside academia).
CIVIS will fund up to 5 projects over a period of 12 months(May 2027 – May 2028), with a maximum contribution of €24,000 per project. To be eligible, projects must include at least three CIVIS member universities, including the coordinating institution, and proposals must address the theme “Democracy in Action: Healthy, Equitable, Sustainable Cities & Communities”.
Across Europe and beyond, cities and communities are facing interconnected societal challenges including, environmental degradation, social inequalities, technological transformations, public‑health vulnerabilities, and declining trust in democratic institutions. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative approaches that actively involved societal and academic actors. Through this call, CIVIS seeks to support projects that develop concrete responses to societal needs while strengthening democratic participation, social inclusion, sustainability and community resilience. Universities and societal partners are encouraged to work together to co-design, test and implement solutions that generate tangible benefits for communities and territories.
The deadline for applications is March 4, 2027. Documents will be uploaded on the Universities and Society in Action platform. Further details about necessary documents, as well as information about the project are available here.
The organizers will provide more information during the online information session which will be held on November 25th 2026.
