The largest number of applications in the last 14 years for admission to the University of Bucharest (UB), 43,921 applications, were registered in the summer session 2023, according to the partial data from Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 23:59. This represents a 42.11% increase from the summer session in 2022, when 30,906 applications were registered.
Competition at the level of the University of Bucharest in this admission session is 7.15 registrations per budgeted place for undergraduate programs.
The highest competition, according to partial data, is at Psychology – Cognitive Sciences at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (36.89 candidates/budgeted place), at Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (19.12 candidates/budgeted place), at Spanish language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures (18.72 candidates/budgeted place), at Information Technology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (18.41 candidates/budgeted place) and at the Technological Biochemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry (17.1 candidates/budgeted place).
Also, for master’s programs, the University of Bucharest represents, as in previous years, the first study option for a significant number of bachelor’s graduates. Thus, the highest competition for master’s programs was registered at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (4.04 candidates/budgeted place), the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (3.54 candidates/budgeted place) and the Faculty of Geography (2, 79 candidates/budgeted place). There may be changes in numbers for the faculties of the University of Bucharest, depending on the final options of the candidates who have registered for the admission competition also at other universities.
The University of Bucharest, the University of Olympians and sports champions
In the 2023 summer admission session, 82 national Olympic students chose the University of Bucharest to continue their studies and academic training. Of these, 23 chose the Faculty of Chemistry, 20 the Faculty of Physics, 18 the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, 8 the Faculty of Letters, 7 the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, 4 the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” and 2 the Faculty of Law.
In addition to these, we mention the 7 world sports champions and Olympians who signed up for one of the special places dedicated to them and who will benefit from the performance scholarships launched this year by the University of Bucharest and special conditions during their study years. They are part of the first generation of UB performance scholars and will receive scholarships worth 1,500 lei (gold medal/1st place), 1,250 lei (silver medal/2nd place) and 1,000 lei, respectively (bronze medal/3rd place), as well as the possibility to occupy a place financed by study grants, benefiting from the status of a special place. Among them we mention David Popovici, multiple world swimming champion, Lucia Rîșnoveanu, multiple Olympian in mathematics, Mihnea Andreescu, multiple Olympian in computer science, and Mircea Munteanu, multiple rugby champion.
Registration for the summer session continues
In several faculties of the University of Bucharest, registration continues in the coming days. At the Faculty of Business and Administration, registrations are open until July 24, 2023 for master’s programs, and at the Faculty of Philosophy until July 23, 2023, for both bachelor’s and master’s programs. The Faculty of Geology and Geophysics closes the application period for summer admission to bachelor’s and master’s programs on July 22, 2023, and the Faculty of Political Science and the Faculty of Baptist Theology close the summer session of admission on July 20, 2023.In this year’s summer admission session, for undergraduate studies, the University of Bucharest offers candidates interested in studying at one of the 19 faculties a number of 4,461 financed places, and for those interested in master’s studies, UB offers 3,200 financed places.
Graduates of the University of Bucharest, the best paid graduates of a university in Romania
The University of Bucharest is the first comprehensive higher education institution in Romania according to the degree of employability and the income obtained by graduates, according to the data correlated between REVISAL and the Unified Matriculation Register (RMU) existing in the system for monitoring the employability of higher education graduates (https://angajabilitate.uefiscdi.ro), compared to the average salaries of comprehensive university graduates. At the same time, the University of Bucharest is in the top 200 universities in the world and the only university in Romania included in the top employability of graduates. Thus, the graduates of the University of Bucharest have the highest salaries in Romania, compared to the graduates of the other comprehensive Romanian universities, 5 years after graduation, with an average salary of approximately 5,600 lei, shows the latest data correlated between REVISAL and RMU. Moreover, in fields such as IT or Law, the average salaries obtained by graduates of the University of Bucharest amount to 17,692 lei and 7,400 lei, respectively.
