The University of Bucharest reaffirms its position as a leader in Romanian higher education according to the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on June 18, 2026. Globally, the University of Bucharest is ranked in the 801 – 850 band and continues to be Romania’s top comprehensive university in terms of research, graduate employability, academic reputation, and commitment to sustainable development.
The QS World University Rankings 2027 highlight the University of Bucharest’s strong performance in graduate employability (Employment Outcomes) and Employer Reputation. UB ranks first in Romania for both indicators, reaffirming its ability to prepare competitive, highly skilled graduates for the global labour market.
Internationally, the University of Bucharest ranks 233rd worldwide for Employment Outcomes and 465th for Employer Reputation, underscoring the strong recognition its graduates enjoy among employers around the world.
The University of Bucharest also stands out for the quality and international reach of its research, its commitment to sustainability, and its academic reputation. In the QS World University Rankings 2027, UB is ranked 505th globally for International Research Network, 520th for Sustainability, and 609th worldwide for Academic Reputation.
“These results further strengthen the University of Bucharest’s profile as an institution that offers relevant, forward-looking academic programmes aligned with the evolving needs of society, while positioning it among the leading universities in Central and Eastern Europe. They also reflect our academic community’s sustained engagement in impactful and sustainable research projects, supported in particular by the opportunities created through our membership in the CIVIS – Europe’s Civic University Alliance since 2019, alongside ten other prestigious European universities,” said Professor Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest.
In addition to the University of Bucharest, seven other Romanian universities are included in the 2027 edition of the QS World University Rankings. Three of them are members of the Universitaria Consortium: Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (851–900), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (1,201–1,400), and the West University of Timișoara (1,201–1,400). Now in its 23rd edition, the QS World University Rankings provide an annual assessment of the world’s leading higher education institutions based on nine performance indicators. These indicators, which carry different weights in the overall score, evaluate academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, participation in international research networks and partnerships, graduate employability, and sustainability performance.
