On Thursday, 1 October 2026, the University of Bucharest opened applications for the 10th edition of the UB Senate Awards. The awards will be presented to the most deserving members of the academic community for their exceptional contributions during the previous academic year to fulfilling the mission of the University of Bucharest. Applications for the UB Senate Awards for the 2025–2026 academic year can be submitted until 31 October 2026 by completing the Google Forms corresponding to each award category.
The awards are presented in the following fields of study: Humanities, Social Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences, Exact Sciences, and Engineering. For each of these fields, nominations may be submitted in the following award categories:
Professor of the Year
Nominations may be made by student associations or groups of students, based on a letter supporting the nomination, accompanied, as a mandatory requirement, by the results of the students’ evaluation of the professor during the previous academic year (confirmed by a document signed by the dean / department director), as well as other materials supporting the nomination (course materials, teaching materials, photographs, films, etc.).

Most Innovative Course / Teaching Method / Teaching Material
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties/departments and consist of a letter supporting the nomination and the course materials in electronic format.

Most Innovative Undergraduate/Postgraduate Programme (awarded to the initiator/coordinator)
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties/departments, based on a letter supporting the nomination that includes a presentation of the programme and its innovative elements.

Most Prestigious Article / Most Prestigious Publication (Book)
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties, based on the article / book published during the previous academic year (1 October 2025 – 30 September 2026), or a functional link to them.

Author / Project / Research Team with the Greatest Scientific Contribution with an Impact on Society
This award is presented for innovations, inventions, laws, public policies, or other similar contributions that have had a positive impact on groups or communities or on society as a whole.
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties/departments, based on a supporting letter and evidence of the positive impact.

Best PhD Thesis
The award is presented to the author and supervisor, and nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / doctoral schools, based on proof of the Ministerial Order confirming the doctoral degree, the PhD thesis, and, optionally, copies of the reports submitted by the members of the committee.

Best Master’s Dissertation
The award is presented to the author and supervisor, and nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties/departments, based on the master’s dissertation and, optionally, the written assessment of the thesis by the supervising professor.

Best Bachelor’s Thesis
The award is presented to the author and supervisor, and nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties/departments, based on the bachelor’s thesis and, optionally, the written assessment of the thesis by the supervising professor.

Professor Emeritus of the Year
The award is presented for an individual’s entire career, and nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / departments, based on an activity report and a list of publications.

Associate Professor of the Year
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / departments, based on an activity report, a list of publications, and, optionally, a letter of support.

Alumnus of the Year
The award is presented for the greatest achievements after graduation, and nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties, based on an activity report outlining achievements after graduation. This category does not include individuals who are still master’s or doctoral students or employees of the University of Bucharest.

Employer of the Year (with the highest number of UB graduates among its employees)
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / departments / coordinators of master’s programmes, based on a list of employees who are UB graduates and their positions within the organisation.

Best Journal (for journals edited by UB teams)
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / departments, based on a description of the journal and a presentation of its latest issues. Explicitly stating in the journal that the editors are affiliated with UB is a mandatory requirement.

Best Civic Initiative
Nominations may be made through self-nominations or nominations from faculties / departments / student associations, based on as detailed a description of the initiative as possible.

The winners in the individual fields will then be considered for the UB Senate Grand Awards:
“Professor of the Year”; “Undergraduate/Postgraduate Programme of the Year”; “Author of the Year”; “Research Project of the Year”; “Bachelor’s Thesis of the Year”; “Dissertation of the Year”; “PhD Thesis of the Year”; “Alumnus of the Year”; “Employer of the Year”.
Applications for the UB Senate Awards for the 2025–2026 academic year can be submitted between 1 October and 31 October, by completing the Google Form corresponding to each award category. Please note! Forms can only be completed and supporting documents uploaded if you have a Google account!
The total value of the awards for 2026 proposed by the Senate of the University of Bucharest will be RON 505,460. The value of the awards in each field is 1/3 of the value of the Grand Awards. The financial benefit associated with a Grand Award cannot be combined with that associated with an award in an individual section.
The financial benefits associated with the Awards are decided by the University Senate and may consist of: monetary amounts, for tenured / adjunct teaching staff; participation in conferences or the purchase of goods and services necessary for the performance of professional duties – for University employees; excellence scholarships – for students.
The awards (including the Grand Awards) for Alumnus of the Year and Employer of the Year are honorary and do not include a financial component.
