Bucharest, September 22, 2023. The University of Bucharest (UB) will award, in a ceremony to be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor Nu Xu, one of the outstanding personalities of contemporary physics.
Professor Nu Xu has made significant contributions to the development and experimental testing of the predictions of the Standard Model of particle physics for the formation of quark and gluon plasma, the connections between the Big Bang scenario for our Universe and the behavior of extremely hot and dense nuclear matter formed in the in the region of overlap of nuclei colliding with relativistic and ultra-relativistic energies. At the same time, Professor Nu Xu also contributed to the development of other modern perspectives and theories in nuclear and elementary particle physics that led to the success of various models in describing the subnuclear structure and cosmological evolutions.
From 2001 until now, he has held various positions in prestigious institutions. Since 2002, Mr. Nu Xu has been an adjunct professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, an external assessor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, since 2004, a visiting professor at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics. From 2010 to present, Professor Nu Xu has been the Dean of the College of Physical Science and Technology, Central China Normal University, and since 2015, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the National Institute of Science Education and Research in India.
The entire scientific and administrative activity of Professor Nu Xu is characterized by deep creativity, skills in solving scientific issues, continuous focus on fundamental concepts, simple but essential for understanding physical processes and phenomena. His fundamental contribution to the development of relativistic nuclear physics and particle physics is linked to the combination of exceptional experimental skills, a deep understanding of the theoretical aspects and a remarkable intuition.The granting of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Bucharest to Professor Nu Xu is a sign of recognition of his prestigious scientific activity and sustained efforts to promote science.The awarding ceremony will take place on Monday, September 25, 2023, starting at 1:30 p.m., in the Senate Hall in the Rectorate building of the University of Bucharest (Șoseaua Panduri no. 90, Bucharest).
