The University of Bucharest supports Romania’s participation in the 9th edition of the International Chemistry Tournament (IChTo 2026), an international competition for young chemistry enthusiasts taking place from August 15-19, 2026, in South Korea, at the Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (KMLA).
Romania’s team, “d2sp3”, consists of six students:
- Chiper Matei (căpitan);
- Luchian Anemona-Maria;
- Alexe Mihnea-Gabriel;
- Vitan Agata-Iulia;
- Stanciu Mihai;
- Anghel Tudor Ștefan.
The team prepared for the competition with the support of Dr. Codruța Popescu. lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Bucharest, together with Ștefan Dimitriu, a student at the UB Faculty of Chemistry, and Ștefan Dumitrescu, a student at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Babeș-Bolyai University.
Unlike traditional competitions, IChTo focuses on teamwork, critical thinking, and scientific argumentation. Participants solve complex chemistry problems with no single predetermined answer and defend their solutions in English-language debates known as “Chemical Fights.”
Romania’s participation in this year’s edition builds on last year’s experience, when the University of Bucharest hosted the 8th edition of IChTo, bringing together young chemists from several countries in Bucharest.
