Romania achieved the best result in its history at the 37th edition of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2025. All four members of the national team delivered an outstanding performance, each winning a gold medal.
The event was held in Sucre, Bolivia, bringing together participants from more than 90 countries. It proved to be a true marathon of excellence in computer science, showcasing both the high level of preparation of Romanian students and the innovative potential of the new generation.
The Romanian team was coordinated by representatives of the Society for Excellence and Performance in Informatics (SEPI): Bogdan Ioan Popa, student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Bucharest, and Marius Nicoli, teacher at the National College “Frații Buzești” in Craiova and representative of Syncro Soft.
The four Romanian medalists:
Rareș-Andrei Neculau, 11th grade, National College “Vasile Alecsandri,” Galați
Rareș-Felix Tudose, 12th grade, International Computer Science High School, Bucharest
Mihai-Valeriu Voicu, 11th grade, International Computer Science High School, Bucharest
Mircea Maxim Rebengiuc, 11th grade, National College of Computer Science “Tudor Vianu,” Bucharest
At last year’s IOI, held in Egypt, Romanian students won one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. Romania placed second worldwide in the medal standings, tied with Poland, after China.
