Measures to promote innovation
- Our research and innovation strategy focuses on strengthening institutional development by balancing applied research with immediate societal benefits and fundamental research with long-term academic impact.
- As a signatory of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), UB aligns with over 360 European institutions committed to modernising research through institutional reform.
- Proven expertise in leading and participating in European-funded projects, including Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
- Over 60 research centres and 9 dedicated research stations (Geography, Biology, Physics, Psychology, Education).
- Several advanced laboratories, including a Petrochronology Lab (laser ablation isotope systems), an Advanced Scientific Computing Centre, several Innovative Pedagogies Labs and others.
- UB is connected to major European and international infrastructures such as RO-CERN, ELI-RO, LIFEWATCH, MIRRI-RI, ELTER.
- Over 180 research and development projects implemented in 2024.
- Human Capital and Know-How
- Over 1,290 academic staff and 662 researchers engaged across disciplines. A diverse student body of over 33,000.
- Expertise in designing and delivering of training and capacity-building programmes, such as the UniBuc Peer Learning, which provided researchers with training in project writing, data analysis, innovative pedagogy, digital transformation, and science diplomacy.
- UB supports talent management and career development, including retention of researchers, lifelong learning, attraction of international talent, scholarships, mobility, and research placements. UB manages the Regional Centre for Career Guidance and Counselling in Research – Bucharest-Ilfov – from Pre-University Education to Advanced Research – SciResCareer
- UB is a founding member of the CIVIS European University Alliance, with 10 partner universities across Europe, and partners across the globe.
- UB is connected to international networks and is an active member of UNICA, EUA, CEEUN, AUF, BSUN, ACA, EIUC, CEIRINGS, and others.
- Engaged to regional collaborations, including strong partnerships with government agencies, industry actors, and local stakeholders.
- Innovation and Technology Transfer
- UB transforms academic expertise into applied solutions with real impact on public policy, industry, and social development. For example, through UniBuc Consult, the university supports the transfer of research results into practice, strengthening societal and economic innovation.
- UB implements several science communication and popularisation activities, including dedicated conferences and digital platforms.
